Comment(s): Baudelaire, the celebrated poet, is generally regarded as the father of modern art criticism. His artistic output was extremely small; we have located only nine sales (seven different images) of his work at auction in the past 21 years, all drawings. The finished drawing of Baudelaire's lover Jeanne Duval, of which our example is the preliminary study, was offered at Claude Aguttes, Neuilly-sur-Seine, France on 09/19/2007 (see attached image - #4).
